The Primer

Ok well I’m not gonna lie but I have not had that much experience with primers and I am by no means a make up expert, I just really like make up. I have only just got into primers and wanted to talk about what I am using at the moment, I thought I would do a compare and contrast with a drugstore vs high end product.

Rimmer Fix & Protect

I mainly use primer to keep my eyeshadow in place and my under eye area so for this purpose this primer does the job, it is a total bargain I think I paid about $15 for this and I picked it up from my local pharmacy. At first impression it does look a bit like sun cream  and has a similar consistency so I usually let it absorb before doing my makeup, it actually has a SPF of 25 which is pretty high for a cosmetic product so that is a major plus. I really like the smell of this, it smells fresh and clean its quite subtle though, I find foundation is best applied with a damp sponge when using this product. It claims to smooth skin and minimise pores, brighten skin and eliminate shine by mattifying skin, I’m probably not the best judge on that though as my skin is pretty normal but I can definitely say that it is perfect for keeping eyeshadow in place after a long and sweaty workout.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

So this one obviously is obscenely priced at $32 for 10ml of product which is more than twice the price of its Rimmel Counterpart, I got this in a travel size and I didn’t have it in me to commit to a full sized bottle but I can safely say it was worth it, they should really call this self esteem in a bottle. I received a sample of this a while back and it literally changed my make up game, it really has elevated my make up look my foundation looked perfect at the end of a particularly blustery and rainy (I wish I could say the same for my hair). The formula is just beautiful, so silky and it feels expensive it has a much lower SPF, its only 15 .and the consistency is very similar to Benefit Porefessional. I know this is a cliche but a little goes a long way, a pump is probably too much for me I mostly used it on my eyes and whatever is  left goes on the rest of my face. I find foundation is best applied with a stippling brush and it leaves my skin feeling luminous.
